Books took me to places I could never go otherwise. They shared the confessions of people I’d never met and lives I’d never witnessed. – Sohn Won-pyung.
Why Penguin Random House Matters?
Penguin Random House is the most influential publisher in the book industry with over 200 imprints that target multiple audiences. An imprint is a sub-brand or division within a larger publishing house that focuses on specific genres or types of books. For example, Knopf is known for literary fiction, while Penguin Books publishes classic and contemporary fiction. Viking focuses on contemporary fiction and non-fiction. Penguin Random House thus has a hold over multiple genres in the publishing industry.
Also, PRH has a global impact. It is dedicated to climate action and equitable recovery. The company’s official website shows that it donated £60,000 to the Book Trade Charity in the U.K. to assist booksellers impacted by COVID-19. In Canada, they provided books to children of essential workers, while in Australia, they donated $100,000 to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
In the U.S., Penguin Random House has donated over 23.2 million books since 2014 and awarded $2.7 million in college scholarships through its Creative Writing Awards. Additionally, in India, the company has partnered to build better access to education. In Germany, they are working towards climate-neutral book production by 2030. They have a much broader impact than merely providing books to the readers.
The Story Behind Penguin Random House
Penguin Random House is known for its diverse options in classics, modern fiction, and non-fiction. The company is an assimilation of two publishing companies. Penguin Books was founded by Allen Lane in the UK in 1935. It aimed to publish good quality paperbacks at affordable prices. Random House was founded by Bennett Cerf and Donald Klopfer in the U.S. in 1927. They aimed to provide books from different genres from fiction to non-fiction. In 2013, the two publishing companies merged together to bring all kinds of books to every reader, everywhere. Penguin Random House publishes classics, new releases, fiction, and non-fiction, all at the most affordable prices and the best quality.

What Makes Penguin Random House Stand Out?
Penguin Random House provides the best quality paperbacks. They always come up with interesting options for their readers. They launched their Penguin Little Black Classics which was a collection of 80 classics in compact sizes. White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky was one of these books and it became the 4th most sold fiction in translation. They have extended their collection by launching the Penguin Modern Box Set which contains works of notable authors and important personalities such as Chinua Achebe, Martin Luther King, George Orwell, and Franz Kafka. The list goes on and on.
These box sets by Penguin Random House and the rest of its collection show that they contain books from every genre to assist every reader across the globe. The most notable authors such as Margaret Atwood and Haruki Murakami are included in their collection. PRH also publishes books in multiple languages including Spanish, Portuguese, German, and French. These traits make PRH an ideal choice for every reader.
Must-Read Books from Penguin Random House
My first purchase from Penguin Random House was a copy of The Count of Monte Cristo in hardback for around $13 which is a pretty decent price for hardback. I got it from a local bookstore so maybe the price of PRH’s official website is different than this but it was surely worth every penny.
Since then I have bought multiple books published by PRH from different bookstores and they are always economical as well as best quality. The must-reads by PRH include classics such as 1984, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Pride and Prejudice. The modern bestsellers include Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale and The Testaments are also published by PRH. Some of the best non-fiction like Becoming by Michelle Obama and Educated by Tara Westover are also available on PRH.

Penguin Random House also has aesthetically appealing editions such as its clothbound classics edition. These editions have simple yet striking covers with beautiful illustrations on the back cover as well. The clothbound editions come in regular sizes which is equal to PRH’s classic paperback book size and also in smaller sizes for short stories and novellas.
Why Readers Love Penguin Random House Books
I have seen many readers who prefer PRH editions. I mostly look for it as well whenever I am out on a book-shopping spree. The main reason that I prefer PRH and most of the readers will agree with me on this, PRH has the best editors and designers. Their covers can be plain, illustrated, flamboyant, and it will still make sense. Every cover resonates with the story. The text is entirely error-free and the introductions offer great insight into the author and the work itself.

PRH has user-friendly editions. Whether you are a student, a reader, or a collector, they have something for you. They have portable light-weight paperbacks, hardcovers, and beautifully illustrated versions with fancy book spines to attract all the different types of readers. Their ebooks and audiobooks are amazing for Kindle users or generally for sustainability purposes.
