If you own a Kindle, you must know about Kindle Unlimited. It is a subscription, like a Netflix or Amazon Prime subscription that gives you access to unlimited collection of books. It often becomes hard to find a book on KU since most of the new releases and fan-favorites are not included in the subscription plan.

I have made a pretty small and compact list of the books to suit every mood and genre, all of these books are available on Kindle Unlimited. I have also included some of the underrated gems in the list because there is such a huge collection on KU that good books often get lost.

Below is the list of books available on Kindle Unlimited that will suit your every mood, whether you want to be introspective and think about the bigger issues of life, need a good laugh, want to cry, or simply escape reality – this list has got you covered!

Book 1: The Hours by Michael Cunningham

The Hours by Michael Cunningham

The Hours by Michael Cunningham is contemporary literary fiction. It is my favorite book of all time. It is one of those underrated gems that I would sell my soul to read for the first time again.

The novel revolves around three women from different decades, including Virginia Woolf so yeah, this is pretty amazing! Beautiful narrative that deals with mental health issues, focusing on female characters. It has that peculiar raising women’s voices vibe which feels tragic and great at the same time.

I loved all the female characters, but Laura Brown, the housewife in The Hours, really left a mark on me. She’s the one I’ll be thinking about for a long time.

Cunningham narrates only one day of each woman’s life and that’s pretty much the whole book, just three days of three different women and it is amazing!

The Hours is perfect if you are in mood to read something thought-provoking in a beautiful narrative. If you are a fan of classics, you will love this book. Also, just a heads-up, when I read The Hours for the first time, it made me super sad, it was so depressing and bleak.

Book 2: The Answer Is No by Fredrik Backman

The Answer Is No by Fredrik Backman Kindle version

I sincerely believe that you have to read at least one book by Fredrik Backman or Mitch Albom in a year if you wish to maintain your sanity.

That being said, The Answer Is No by Fredrik Backman is a short story dealing with contemporary issues one faces as part of a social group. The short story is hilarious with its quirky and witty characters.

The Answer Is No focuses on Lucas who is a lonely and introverted character. He is super relatable and witty! The story starts with a frying pan! Yes, you read that right! Someone throws a random frying pan and everyone is concerned that if the matter is left unnoticed, the culprit will throw something else and it will be a pile of garbage in a few days. The self-proclaimed authority figures investigate the issue and it’s all so ridiculous and funny.

The story is short and perfect if you need a good laugh. It shows how the simplest issues are complicated in our society and it is just super relatable in every aspect.
No matter what kind of a reader you are, I can assure you that this book will feel like you just had a chat with your best buddy. It’s cozy, comforting, and hilarious! Perfect for the fans of social commentary and witty reads!

Book 3: What Lies Between Us by John Marrs

What Lies Between Us by John Marrs ebook version

What Lies Between Us by John Marrs is a psychological thriller. It is about Nina who has kept her mother Maggie caged in the upper story of her house. The upper portion of the house is completely sealed with no external contact and you surely wonder why! The answer will give you goosebumps.

The novel deals with mental health issues. You get dual perspectives of both characters. This book has the most mind-blowing depiction of an unreliable narrator! I kept doubting every character, and just when I thought I had it figured out—boom! Plot twist. My jaw was on the floor. I seriously can’t hype this book enough—it’s a brilliant thriller. The best thing about this book is that it does not contain a single plot twist, there are multiple plot twists scattered in the narrative.

It is perfect for the fans of family trauma and unreliable narrators. If you are in a mood to read a thriller that has secrets and mystery, this can be your next read. I think What Lies Between Us is one of Marrs’ underrated books. I have read many thrillers by him and this one is my favorite. It has all the right ingredients necessary for a perfect thriller.

Book 4: Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones ebook version

Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones is a YA fantasy about a young girl Sophie who has to live in Howl’s moving castle as an old woman. There are surely turns of magical events that lead her to Howl’s moving castle. The book is fun, there is a film adaptation of the same book which is quite cozy with Ghibli art that’s quite famous these days.

Howl’s Moving Castle is perfect if you are looking for a way to escape reality. It has a magical and cozy setting with an easy and interesting narrative. The story build-up is great and the character development feels unique and amazing.

The book has magic, curses, and quirky characters – all in a whimsical world! I would totally recommend it to the fans of Studio Ghibli. It is perfect if you are looking for a feel-good book. It is for all the fantasy lovers who are looking for an easy yet interesting read. Also, I think Howl’s Moving Castle is suitable for readers of every age, whether you are a kid, an adult, or a grown-up oldie, you are going to love this book!

Book 5: Adelaide by Genevieve Wheeler

Adelaide by Genevieve Wheeler Book

Adelaide by Genevieve Wheeler is a contemporary romance about a girl Adelaide who is hopelessly in love with an English man Rory. The novel is quite emotional and heartbreaking. It focuses on Adelaide’s unrequited love and highlights the importance of self-assertion and self-respect.

Adelaide has slow-burns and a pretty bleak romance which makes it super relatable. It has the same feel as Sally Rooney’s books. It has that modern setting and contemporary issues that will make you feel relatable to the character.

The novel is perfect for fans of contemporary romance and slow-burn books. It has a depressing feel to it, ideal for cold winter nights. If you are in the mood to just slow down and read something thought-provoking and beautiful, Adelaide is perfect!

Wrapping-Up!

All these five books are available on KU. These are suitable for every mood that you might feel. These books can offer you a good laugh, make you cry, experience a thrill, and even escape reality – whatever you want!

I have always preferred my KU books because I truly feel that Kindle speeds up my reading process. I love my physical copies but still, Kindle is just easier and more practical in many ways. I am always on the lookout for new options to read on Kindle. Kindle Unlimited changes its selection every month, so there’s a chance some of these books might not be available when you check.
